You don’t have to be in college or have some type of party atmosphere going on every night to enjoy a quality outdoor bar set up at your home.  The outdoor bar fits in perfectly with the way that we all wish to use the patio.  It is a place for rest and relaxation.  Imagine kicking your feet up in the hammock with a cold drink in your hands.  Better yet, how about bellying up to your backyard bar with friends and watching the game.

We’d like to say that there is one style that is best, but this wouldn’t really be fair.  The best style is the one that works well in your given scenario and patio design.  Keep in mind that with outdoor bars, you will likely be using them for entertaining and they should be functional.  You would not like to have to be moving some big and cumbersome bar around a lot.  Matching your bar and other patio furniture may be an issue. However, if you have opted to build an outdoor kitchen space or other room, then your bar may just be built in to your designs.  In this scenario, you really only need to worry about your outdoor bar stools – the counter and bar will be taken care of with the built structure.  For this reason and more, finding the best outdoor bar furniture that works for how you live on your patio is the best idea.

So, what are some of these new patio sets made of?  Well, our favorites here are made of wood.  Nothing speaks more of the outdoors than wood, just make sure that it is an environmentally friendly choice.  If you choose to buy new, there are plenty of great cedar outdoor dining sets that look great.  Usually, you will find that they come with 4 chairs, a table and a bench.  Just like with your garden bench, you’ll want to make this seat more comfortable.  In fact, you’ll want all your seats to be comfortable – this means chair cushions for the chairs and a good bench cushion for the bench.  Don’t worry about having a bench to sit on.  This is no longer a punishment for your least favorite guest or the seating that is reserved only for the kids.  Bench seating is a popular trend now as well.  You’ll even find this type of bench seating in many indoor kitchen nook designs.

Like the picture shows, you can really have an elegant and relaxed setting with an outdoor dining environment.  Maybe global warming will actually be a small blessing in disguise – it may help get us and keep us outdoors more days of the year.  That doesn’t bode well for those living in the desert southwest, but it can mean greater patio dining seasons for many more weeks in most parts of the country.  All joking aside, if you are in the market for outdoor dining furniture, you will be glad you made this decision.

Just like the title says, these outdoor gliders are very much like having an outdoor bench that moves back and forth.  It is similar to an outdoor swing, but with some slight differences – both in design and motion.  The way that a glider works is by having its pivot points mounted to a frame upon which the seat itself is attached.  You can see an example of a cedar outdoor glider in this photo.

The motion of a glider like this is what makes it so relaxing.  Rather than having a free-form type of movement like you might get with a child’s swing, these move only in one plane – forward and backward.  It is this same motion that has made those indoor gliders so popular for feeding and rocking babies and to simply relax on inside.  There is just something very soothing about the rhythm.

As far as materials go, you can see by the photo that they come in wood styles.  Cedar is not the only choice, but is again one of our favorite types of woods.  Cedar is both attractive and a great outdoor wood choice and can also be forested in a sustainable way – a big plus in our minds.  This type of wood can be finished with clear sealers or stains to tint the natural wood or it may be left to weather to a nice silvery gray color.

Another popular outdoor furniture glider is the aluminum framed-nylon seated variety.  It has the same overall design elements as the wooden choices, just different in construction and color choices.  With these styles, the aluminum is powder coated to create a long-lasting finish and the nylon mesh seat and back support sections can provide for a softer seat.

Speaking of a softer seat, there are outdoor glider cushions that can make sitting on your cedar or other wooden style that much more comfortable.  In fact, if you are considering one of the cedar or redwood outdoor glider chairs, it would be well worth it to spend the extra bit for the glider cushions, too. These make great additions to your garden or patio furniture pieces.  Because there is only minimal assembly in some cases, order your outdoor glider and you’ll be swinging on it by next weekend in most cases.

Because of the natural fit between outdoor patio living and entertaining and pool lounging, you might be able to get double duty out of some of your patio furniture.  Specifically, because many of the modern patio cushion designs are made to handle water absorption and drainage issues, using them poolside can be perfectly acceptable as well.  Still, there are some special styles of swimming pool furniture to speak about.

First of all, there are chairs, pool lounge chairs and actual floating pool furniture.  Depending upon your stance on such things, those floating lounge chairs and other items made to be used in the pool might not be what you are thinking about.  These pieces of ‘furniture’ you might call rafts or some similar name.  You know the ones, made of a foam core with a plastic coating surface to them that is waterproof.  They do make great pool floats, but maybe not what you had in mind here.

The chairs can come in a variety of things from your classic Adirondack style, that low slung-back look.  Other chairs are a bit more modern with the capability to flip back into a reclining position or rock gently.  You’ve seen the reclining ones that have the fine mesh nylon webbing for the seat material and is anchored to the metal frame using a strong nylon cord.  These are sometimes referred to as the inverters or zero gravity styles.  Typically, they sell for about $125 USD.

Still others are more like the patio furniture you might expect to find either in an outdoor room or other proper type of patio setting.  These usually look a bit larger, like an indoor chair and have some larger cushions on them.  They tend to have a more elegant look to them or at the very least, tend to be less easily moved around poolside.  Prices vary depending upon the materials and quality of cushions you buy.

Then, there are the famous chaise lounge chairs.  These are the mark of a true patio enthusiast!  You will find that teak pool furniture is very popular.  Teak has a long history of being able to withstand the conditions that the outdoors can take on furniture.  While we do appreciate its beauty and durability, teak can also be seen as a less sustainable choice as it is typically harvested from rain forest regions.  If you must have your teak (we can appreciate your tastes) try to buy some very good used furniture – this way you are not contributing to the problem and you can still get your coveted teak.

You can also find aluminum pool furniture that is wrapped in many water-resistant fabrics, from nylons to polypropylenes to canvas.  Some woods like teak and redwood are sometimes used in combination with various metals to create a nice blend and durable chair.  Finding modern chaise lounges is another option.  There are many modern designers who have taken the chaise and run with the concept.  Chairs made entirely of redwood and more have been designed.

While most commercial pool furniture is made more for durability and repetitive use, your home or patio set might not have such issues.  Hotel pools are usually stocked with the standard aluminum and nylon or rubber webbing style of chairs.  You may also find some simple plastic styles.  These are also quite functional, just not necessarily going to win you any pool patio furniture design awards.  In the end, all you need is a patio umbrella over you and some nice pool furniture under you to keep a big smile on your face all summer long.

In the end, what you are looking for is a comfortable place to rest your body for a little breather from the demands of everyday life.  This is what makes chaise lounges so central to this point.  They are an emblem that speaks to this common desire we all share.  It is likely why so many interpretations and takes on the chaise have been attempted over the years.

The chaise is one of those patio chairs that you just can’t replace.  What we mean is that there are ways to sort of get by without certain pieces of furniture.  While there are many ways to get the most out of your patio, some are maybe a bit too indulgent to some.  The chaise lounge chair is certainly not one area to skimp on.  Yes, they are expensive, but only if you consider them in a short-sighted way.  If you are thinking about costs, a quality chaise will cost you in the neighborhood of $500-750 USD.  Yes, you will find them cheaper online at various sites.  But, if you compare quality and materials, you will find this price to be accurate.

If you take into account what buying a quality chaise lounge will do for your peace of mind, it is really hard to quantify exactly what you are paying.  This also speaks to the quality of the type you buy.  Like all patio furniture, we believe in quality at Patio Covers Place.  Not only is it better for the user, but it is friendlier for the environment as well.  A quality piece of furniture – indoor or out – is made to last.  When something is made to last, it ends up being taken care of and does not end up in a dump or landfill anytime soon.

You may also know that around here, we are big supporters of sustainable and environmentally friendly materials and accessories for your patio.  Since many pieces of quality outdoor furniture are made of teak, we find a dilemma.  Teak is not a very sustainable or eco-friendly wood choice option.  So, what we highly recommend is a wood like cedar or redwood.  You still need to make sure that these are produced in a sustainable way, but the odds are simply better than with teak.  However, we realize that teak does have many advantages as well.  So, where we come out on this point is going back to quality.  There is a trade off when it comes to environmental sensitivity and function.  If you will get longer performance and use from a quality teak chaise lounge chair, then you will keep it in good maintained shape out of the garbage.

Again, with quality comes a steeper price and much longer life.  You’ll find that the better quality chaise lounges also are built with real rubber treads on the tires if they are a rolling style and have stainless steel parts for better wear in the elements.  Additionally, features such as slide out shelving and the wood slats themselves will be much more smooth and user-friendly.  Even with this, comfort is still a top priority.

Just like with your other patio chairs and furniture, you’ll want to sit on a soft surface.  Chaise lounge cushions are what you are looking for here.  They can be special ordered to fit your chaise perfectly or you can take careful measurements yourself and get just the right fit.  Your chair cushions can come in a variety of colors, fabrics and patterns.  If you plan on using your chaise lounge poolside, consider some of the quick drying and mildew resistant materials that are available now.

And so it goes, when you are looking for that perfect garden bench to fit in that special place in your garden or patio.  Your outdoor garden bench can take on several different styles and materials for that matter.  The most popular, tried and true style is a wooden garden bench.  Metal garden benches can also be quite comfortable as well.  Some metal styles have wooden slats used for the seating and back support areas, which have a bit more give than the entirely metal ones.  However, there is something charming and wonderful about a wrought iron piece of patio furniture.
